Christmas in California

I know that it is almost Valentine’s Day and I am finally getting around to posting about Christmas. I am slowly but surely getting caught up. We had a great time in Carlsbad, CA for Christmas this year. It is always nice when the whole extended family can get together for the holidays. Thanks mom and dad for letting us crash your place for a couple weeks! Enjoy the pictures!

Kimball was fascinated by all the ornaments on the tree. She only broke one the entire trip, which is better than I thought she would do. I love this picture of her!

Frosting sugar cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve.

Kimball’s cousin, Mikalynn, was hard at work making sure the cookies were perfect for Santa. Kimball was more interested in taste testing the cookies to make sure they were delicious enough for Santa. I believe she was prompted by her daddy.

She enjoyed every bite of that cookie. If you look closely, you can see some sugar cookie crumbs on her lips.

If you haven’t heard, my mom comes up with a theme for Christmas each year. The clues all begin with what we are having for dinner. Let’s see if you can guess what the theme for this year was with the menu (note: not all things need to be related to the theme).

Butterfly shaped dinner rolls

Green beans with mushrooms

Celery with Peter Pan Peanut Butter

Jello Salad

Angel hair pasta with spaghetti sauce

Chicken with Duck Sauce

Sparkling Cider

Any guesses?

Next on the Christmas Eve activity agenda, was designing paper airplanes and seeing how far they would go. The person who’s airplane went the furthest, won $10. We started the competition in the house and needed more room for a “fly off" between Sam and Kevin, so we went outside. Sam was the winner. Nice job, Sam.

Mikalynn & Kimball were laughing so hard! It is so hard to get a picture of Kimball with a genuine smile, but it was so easy this night because Mikalynn was making Kimball crack up :)

The whole Briggs clan in our matching PJs. GAP was an acronym for “Get A Plane”. The women had snowflake print PJ bottoms on. Mikalynn & Kimball had butterflies on their PJs.

Any guesses?

The theme was “Come Fly With Me”

My parents gave the boys remote control helicopters and the girls Southwest Airline gift cards. I wish I had my mom’s energy to come up with all this fun stuff every year! Thanks mom & dad!!!

After all the traditional activities are finished, we end Christmas Eve with the church’s Nativity video synced with Amy Grant’s, Breath of Heaven song. After we watch the video, we have a family testimony meeting. It helps us to remember what Christmas is all about. I am so grateful for Jesus Christ and for the life he lived and the example he set for us to follow. I know that He lives and is the reason for the Christmas Season.

Kimball is in LOVE with Elmo, so she got a lot of Elmo stuff for Christmas. She was pretty spoiled for Christmas this year between Santa, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins.

Kevin was called to Scout Troop Committee Chairman at church and has been and plans to go on many campouts. The only problem is that we didn’t have any camping stuff besides a tent, so he got a few things camp related. Kevin had been spending a lot of time on the computer lately. I thought that he had been working on the “Year DVD” he makes for me every year. I opened up a gift and started crying immediately. Kevin had made me a blog book. He made sure to mention how much time it took. He thought it was going to be as easy as drag and drop, but he had to reformat every picture & text. He spent somewhere between 20 & 30 hours on it. I am grateful for the time he spent on it. I appreciate the time he sacrificed to give me this precious gift. I look through it daily.

My brother, Dave, opened an envelope that had the gender of he & Melissa’s baby written on it. He found out they are having a BOY! I am so excited for them!

Kimball also got a new “baby” stroller for Christmas, except for I rarely see Elmo sitting in it. Instead, she is pushing around Elmo. Kimball had so much fun pushing the stroller around my parents house all week. It was a let down when we came back to our little apartment in San Antonio. She has had to be creative with the space she has.
