Trouble Sleeping?

Kimball had quite the attachment to her pacifier during nap time & bedtime. She would only get to have it during the times she would be sleeping. Every time we would lay her down to sleep, she would instantly ask for her pacifier. Kimball started to chew on her pacifier, to the point where there were holes in the plastic. So, we saw our opportunity to wean her off of it. Kevin took scissors to it and cut off half of it. We handed it to Kimball and she tried sucking on it. She realized immediately that it wasn’t the same and handed it back to us saying, “NOT WORKING!” We told her it was broken, but she could keep it in bed with her if that made her feel better.

The first night was rough. She probably cried off & on for a couple hours. Which broke my heart, I wanted to just go in & hold her until she fell asleep. Kimball didn’t know how to fall asleep without her pacifier. The next night was better – just a little crying. The third went surprisingly well.

On the third night, we could hear Kimball playing in her room for an hour (no crying at all). We went in to check on her around 9:00 because we didn’t hear her playing anymore.

This is what we found when we walked in - her new way of calming down before bedtime. I love that she lifted her stroller into her bed :)

On the fourth night, we heard Kimball playing in her room for about an hour. We heard the door open and the shuffling of Kimball’s feet. She came to us and said “help”. We went into her room to see what she needed help with. She emptied the whole package of diapers onto her bed. Apparently, she needed help cleaning of her bed, so she could have a place to lay down.

On the fifth night – same thing…

She decided to empty her clothes out of her dresser and dumped them on the table.

Sixth night – she didn’t need our help clearing off her bed, she surprisingly found a place to lay down.

I am glad that taking away her pacifier wasn’t too traumatizing for her. It is good to know that Kimball can always find a way to deal with things. She still plays for an hour or so every night. Except now when we check on her, she is passed out on the floor near the door. She knows that she is not supposed to come out when it is bedtime, so she gets as close as she can without getting in trouble. I love this little girl. Next task – potty training! Wish me luck :)

Um, can you please tell me how it went in her big girl bed?? We have a townhouse where Brin is upstairs and we sleep down. I am TERRIFIED to put her in a big girl bed. She may end up sleeping in a crib until she's like 5. Not kidding. I LOVE the "not working" that will tooootally be Brin. She loves her binky and says "binkeeey peeeease" during the day or when we're riding in the car somewhere. She cracks me up. The binky is now only bed and naptime, but she still thinks she can get it sometimes during the day. I'll admit, I'm afraid to quit the binky too. Geez, all this growing up parenting stuff!!! Glad Kimball is older than Brin so I can get some advice for all these changes quickly approaching!!!

So I started off laughing reading your post and then I realized I need to wean Lily off of her pacifier and I'm not looking forward to that at all. Well good luck with the potty training and congrats on getting rid of the pacifier!!

She kills me with her cuteness. That is hilarious! Maybe she will turn into Peyton and slowly make her way out to the hallway :). Good luck!
