Grandpa Kimball's Funeral

Ashley's grandfather on her mom's side passed away recently and we had the blessing of being able to attend the funeral in honor of him. He was truly a great man, and has done a lot to help our little family start off on the right foot. We were all sad to see him go, but we know he is with the woman he loves now.

Grandpa Kimball served in World War II in an Army reconnaissance plane, flying directly over enemy positions and calling in artillery fire. He was awarded a medal for completing 30 missions (I think) and surviving, because evidently it was a pretty hazardous assignment. He was also able to watch with a bird's-eye view as Patton's army rolled across Europe towards Germany. So in honor of his service, the VFW was there with an Honor Guard, complete with a flag-draped casket and 21-gun salute. It was a very nice ceremony and the first time I had been at Veteran's funeral.
In between all the memorials, we had a bit of time to do some other stuff with family in and around Danville. We all ate at Fentons in Oakland...the ice cream is amazing! We also swung by the Oakland Temple and visitor's center, for seriously about 2 minutes...we were running a little behind. The Oakland Temple has an amazing view though..
It was a quick weekend, but well worth the trip. We don't get to see Ashley's family very often, especially all her cousins. Thanks Mom and Dad for making it a memorable weekend!
